Array With Red Counters
Drag on new counters from the dispenser. Drag one counter over another to add them together. Make copies of the last counter that you pressed. Split counters into smaller amounts by pressing on the counter then pressing on 'split' Colours change to a factor from the dispenser. Primes greater than 5 are red as they're divisible by 1.
The counter can also be organised by colour into an array to demonstrate simplifying fractions e.g. 6 red and 9 blue counters can be sorted into an 3 rows of 2 red dots and 3 blue dots, thus 615 25 5. Identifying and simplifying ratio As with fractions above e.g. 6 red and 9 blue and 3 green counters can be sorted into an 3 rows of 2
A virtual set of counters. Customisable by shape, size and colour.

Model addition equations using red counters for one of the addends and yellow counters for the other addend. Model multiplication with counters by creating groups of counters. Circle each group using the pencil tool. Show points for two different teams while playing a game. Use red counters for one team and yellow counters for the other team.
Arrays can be enormously helpful tools for helping young learners to visualize multiplication. Early work with arrays also sets the stage for more advanced mathematics, like binomial multiplication. In this blog post, I present several interactive arrays built with Web Sketchpad as part of the Dynamic Number project.. The interactive array model below and here consists of 12 red counters.
