Modular Apple Watch Face Large Font

I noticed that before all system updates this fall there was no support for variable fonts. Over night suddenly my Mac can install a variable font. And the Ultra 1 gets this cool new watch face that has smoothly scaling digits, kind of like a variable font would allow them to! I checked with SF Mono and SF Compact.

In quotMy Watchquot you can pick a face you've previously chosen and tap the Edit button. Or, in Face Gallery, you can choose a new face. You can play with the controls to see what changes. In the Simple face I've chosen above, the font of the quotcomplicationsquot can change color. Hitting quotAddquot will add the new face to your collection.

Did Apple create an entirely new typeface for the Apple Watch? Did they customize something existing? To me it looks like it was inspired by DIN and given a very tall x-height, but I see influence from Roboto in there as well.

I really want to like the new Modular watch face but the random font style used for the digital clock is throwing me off. I know this is just an opinion but I wanted to know if anyone else is feeling this way? Gives off a third party app feel haha.

While you can't directly adjust the font size within the quotFontquot settings, you can choose a watch face with larger default font sizes. The Modular and Infograph watch faces often offer larger font options compared to other watch faces.
