Tracing Paper Maths

A highly visual introduction which focuses on rotational symmetry and using tracing paper to rotate shapes, with a fully differentiated main task. The second lesson is more advanced and features coordinates as centres of rotation. This also looks at describing rotations too. Extension task is credit of TES user TristanJones.

1. Place the tracing paper over the grid. 2. On tracing paper, draw the shape that is to be rotated and mark on the centre of rotation. 3. Place you pencil rmly on the centre of rotation and rotate the tracing paper the number of degrees required in the right direction. 4. Draw over the shape rmly so that a slight indentation is made in

Use a pencil and trace the shape onto a piece of tracing paper. 2 Rotate the tracing paper about the centre of enlargement. Use the pencil and put the tip onto the fixed point. Pivot the tracing paper a quarter turn clockwise. 3 Draw the rotated shape onto the grid. Carefully lift the tracing paper and draw the rotated shape in the correct

Place the tracing paper over page and draw over the original object. STEP 2. Place the point of your pencil on the centre of rotation. STEP 3. Rotate the tracing paper by the given angle in the given direction. The angle will be 90, 180 or 270 STEP 4 Carefully draw the image onto the coordinate grid in the position shown by the tracing paper

Drawing rotations can be hard! In this video, I show you how to rotate a polygon on a coordinate grid using tracing paper! To see how to rotate without traci

Rotate the tracing paper. Every time the tracing parer is the same as the shape this counts as 1. A square has rotational symmetry order of 4. There are for different rotations of the shape that are exactly the same as the original shape. The starting position also counts as 1 so all shapes have at least a rotational order of 1.
