The United States Military Academy West Point and grounds were declared a National Historic Landmark in 1960 2 due to the Revolutionary War history and the age and historic significance of the academy itself. The majority of the buildings in the central cadet area are historic. The West Point Military Reservation, in Orange County, is mostly in Highlands Town.

Located on the Hudson River in West Point, New York, the Academy is responsible for providing four-year educational instruction to the Army's officers in training. The majority of the picturesque campus grounds were declared a National Historic Landmark in 1960 because of its history in military education and role in the Revolutionary War.

The keystone for our overarching modernization effort is the Academic Building Upgrade Program ABUP, a holistic 15-17 year program that involves the complete renovation of seven antiquated facilities and a portion of an eighth, some more than a century old, which are critical to delivering academic, military, and character development programs.

Work has begun on a five-year renovation of 38 buildings serving as cadet barracks during the summer. The 66 million renovation, expected to be complete in 2026, is part of the West Point Military Complex Development Program upgrading military training areas allowing cadets to train year-round.

West Point's Academic Building Upgrade Program ABUP recognizes that developing world-class leaders demands world-class infrastructure. As the cornerstone of that program, Thayer Hall's reconstruction is essential to delivering a 21st-century education that equips cadets for complex operational environments.

As a solution to academic space shortages and outdated facilities at West Point, the CEAC will include 59 flexible laboratory spaces designed to support interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation. These facilities will support project-based learning within the USMC's cyber, robotics, biomechanics, systems design and infrastructure specialties.
