UNITED STATES CORPS OF CADETS West Point, New York. 24 May 1960. Dear Candidate We understand that you may be joining the Corps of Cadets in July. When you take the oath of a cadet, you will be accepting as a way of life a tradition which stretches back more than 150 years.
The oath of allegiance binds the cadet to support the Constitution of the United States, to bear true allegiance to the national government, and to obey the orders of officers above them, including the President. The wording, format, and execution of these documents changed numerous times. Major changes occurred during the Civil War period
Cadet candidates should not wear old ripped clothes, or clothes that could be considered too casual. REMEMBER -- the image that you project to your sponsors or others in the community, not only reflect on you, but also on the Prep School, West Point and the Army.
