Percobaan Split-plot merupakan superimpose dari dua jenis satuan percobaan dimana rancangan lingkungan untuk keduanya bisa sama ataupun berbeda. Satuan percobaan untuk petak utama bisa dirancang dengan rancangan dasar RAL, RAKL, dan RBSL. Demikian juga, satuan percobaan anak petak bisa dirancang dengan ketiga rancangan dasar tersebut.
