2. R-Day Barbeque . The R-Day Barbeque will take place after dropping off your cadet candidate. This will give you a chance to catch your breath, chat with fellow parents, and learn more about WPAOG while enjoying lunch. Two options, box lunch on the Review Plain or sitting down in Herbert Hall. R-Day Barbeque is for family members only.

This is the day your son or daughter begins their 47 months at the United States Military Academy. They truly start down the road to independence and begin a unique time of their life. We hope that you will be able to accompany your candidate to West Point for R-Day. West Point is the oldest continuously operated military post in the country.
Although R-Day is a great day to visit West Point, there is no further contact with your sondaughter once you say your good-byes during the report time. There are twelve parades held at West Point each year. Seven of these involve two of the Corps' four regiments and five parades involve the entire brigade. Brigade reviews include Homecoming and the Thayer Award in the fall, and the Alumni Review, the Superintendent's Awards, and the Graduation Parade in the spring.
